Chasing The Moon

I am working on a series of contemporary brightly colored watercolors. “Chasing The Moon” is the first. I have always painted in a more controlled style and have been trying to loosen up a little. So I will lay down the color with no particular idea in mind and let the color and shapes dictate the finished image. I have to admit it’s fun.

King of Prairie

The Buffalo who reigned supreme over North America’s grasslands. Thousands of these majestic animals once roamed the grasslands. Many Native Americans believed buffalo spirits brought sacred knowledge to the people of the plains. The Coyote is thought to have released the buffalo on the earth to help feed the native people. Failure to respect the buffalo was thought to cause unsuccessful hunts or the cause of a hunter’s death. Buffalo are spiritually powerful to many tribes, especially in the Great Plains region. Their horns, hides and bones were often used for clothing, spiritual ceremonies, artifacts and tools. The buffalo was viewed as a symbol of honor and generosity. The King of the Prairie is still associated with strength, endurance and protection.
