Canada Goose

Every spring, I eagerly await the return of what I affectionately call “my” Canadian Geese. Their arrival is a cherished event, marking the transition from the cold grasp of winter to the vibrant renewal of spring. But this year, as I scanned the horizon for the familiar V-shaped formations, I noticed something amiss – one of my favorite pairs was missing his mate.

It’s the absence has weighed heavily on my heart. The male, still faithfully presence on my pond, calls out every day with a haunting longing for his mate. It’s a sound that echoes through the stillness of the early mornings and the fading light of dusk, a poignant reminder of the bond they shared and the void left by her absence.

Despite the uncertainty, I find myself holding onto hope. Each day, I keep watch, scanning the skies for any sign of her return. I wonder where she could be, what might have kept her away, and if she’ll ever grace us with her presence again.

In the meantime, I can’t help but marvel at the resilience of the male goose, his unwavering devotion a testament to the depth of their connection. And though the future is uncertain, I take solace in the possibility that he may find a new partner to fill the void left by his missing mate, bringing new life and companionship to our pond.

As I continue to keep vigil over my pond, I’m reminded of the fragility and beauty of life in all its forms. And while the absence of my favorite pair tugs at my heartstrings, it also serves as a poignant reminder to cherish every moment and to hold onto hope, even in the face of uncertainty.
