The Shoderee Ranch

A wanderer by nature, my art reflects my passion. Wild places and the wonders of nature are my inspiration. My unconventional history has molded me into what I am today.

Chasing The Moon

I am working on a series of contemporary brightly colored watercolors. “Chasing The Moon” is the first. I have always painted in a more controlled style and have been trying to loosen up a little. So I will lay down the color with no particular idea in mind and let the color and shapes dictate the finished image. I have to admit it’s fun.

The Shodaree Ranch

The Shodaree Ranch is unmistakably one of the most beautiful ranches located in the foothills of Southern Alberta, Canada. Nestled under the Rocky Mountains the landscape is breathtaking. Home to the abundant wildlife species that call this range home is made possible by one thing. A landscape that is unhindered by the masses, where the paved roads are few and the land goes on forever. A place where the rivers are abundant and crystal clear. Not to mention world class fishing on some impressive rivers. Starting as a trickle at their headwaters high in the Rockies, they become fast and furious as they reach the Foothills. Ranchers who ply their trade in this dwindling part of heaven have miles of pasture for their livestock. Horses rarely have to be confined to a stall. They spend their leisure time grazing on the hard grass that is native to the area. That is not to say they aren’t an integral part of the ranch operations. Working cattle in the wide open places requires their considerable talent and participation. So you can bet there will be some fine horses on hand to do the job. When the weather turns to winter and snow begins to fly never worry they will let you know when it’s time to come inside. You can bet the fires are burning in the ranch house as well. I can smell the wood smoke from here.

This painting was referenced with permission from a photograph of good friend of mine who calls the Shodaree home. I may hang one on my wall and dream.
